Building a Quality Arizona planning framework
is now online for a virtual meeting
The role of transportation in Arizona’s history has been profound. From the earliest trails and wagon roads, to achievements like the I-10 tunnel in Phoenix and the grand US 93 Burro Creek Canyon Bridge, Arizona has much for which to be proud. For tomorrow, the role of transportation will continue to expand – and diversify.
The Arizona Department of Transportation has completed the “Building a Quality Arizona” effort, which started in early 2008, to gain input from community members across the state. During that process, ADOT worked collaboratively with Arizona communities to develop a Statewide Transportation Planning Framework that outlines our transportation needs and goals. We looked for big ideas, big innovation and hopeful visions.
| This framework represents the vision for Arizona’s transportation system for 2050 – a vision to help leaders and residents prepare for the projected growth ahead. In conjunction with meetings in Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Tucson, ADOT is now presenting the full range of recommendations that emerged through this process in an online format. New transportation visioning requires a new way to initiate the discussion, and collect feedback. |

- A brief motion picture produced internally by ADOT professionals highlighting the past, present and future of transportation in our state. The past may be dominated by highways, but the future has exciting possibilities.
- Recommendations for the framework, vision and guiding principles.
- The main elements of the statewide framework, including multimodal mobility, economic vitality, sustainability and environment, and safety and security.
Perhaps most importantly, you will have an opportunity to submit comments, either in general or to specific inquiries, through each stage of this online meeting.
The insights, input and ideas collected as part of the extensive “Building a Quality Arizona” effort will support the next phase of planning – development of long-range transportation plan that looks to 2030, applies some priorities and projects costs to truly help Arizona take the next step forward through a range of transportation options for everyone.
